Tarot Check-ins: 3-card spread: I Can • I Will • Because

If you liked the one-card pull, this is the next step: still simple, still gentle, but a little more directive.

This is the I Can • I Will • Because spread: three cards to name your capacity, pick one action, and anchor it in purpose.

Gentle note

This is reflection work, not a verdict.

If you feel unsafe or overwhelmed right now, skip the cards and reach for human support first.

The spread (this is the whole point): I Can • I Will • Because

Pull three cards, left to right:

  1. I Can: what capacity, strength, or resource is available?
  2. I Will: what action am I taking (first micro-step within 24 hours)?
  3. Because: why does this matter (value, purpose, the real reason)?

Say it out loud when you’re done:

“I can . I will . Because __.”

When to use this spread

Use this when:

  • you’re stuck in “thinking about it” instead of moving
  • you’re scared you can’t follow through
  • you keep outsourcing your knowing (to other people, apps, or reassurance spirals)

This spread is for self-trust through motion, not perfect certainty.

Before you shuffle: pick one question

Try one of these:

  • “What do I actually have available right now?”
  • “What’s the smallest honest action I can take?”
  • “What am I choosing, and why?”

Then stick to that one question for the whole pull.

Step 0: land for 30 seconds

  • One hand on chest or belly.
  • One inhale, one slower exhale.
  • Name three true things: “I’m here. It’s today. I’m safe enough to pause.”

You’re not doing this to become calm. You’re doing it to become reachable.

Step 1: pull 3 cards (slow on purpose)

  • Shuffle for 20–60 seconds.
  • Cut the deck once.
  • Pull three cards, face down.
  • Turn them over one at a time, left to right.

Pause after each card. Let the first interpretation show up before you look anything up.

Step 2: the 7-minute script (copy/paste this)

Set a timer for 7 minutes and fill this in:

Card 1: I Can

  • I can (capacity): _
  • The resource I’m forgetting I have: _
  • This looks like, today: _ (one concrete example)

Card 2: I Will

  • I will (action): _
  • My first micro-step in 24 hours is: _
  • One support that makes this easier: _

Card 3: Because

  • Because (purpose/value): _
  • This matters because it protects / builds / honors: _
  • One-line affirmation: _

How to read without spiraling

A quick rule that helps: Tarot is a mirror, not a microphone.

You’re not trying to “get the right answer.” You’re trying to get honest.

If you get stuck, use the imagery like training wheels:

  • posture (braced? open? curled up?)
  • weather (stormy? bright? still?)
  • where the eyes look (toward / away / down)
  • what’s held vs. what’s hidden

If you pull a card that scares you

Treat it like a signal, not a sentence.

Try these reframes:

  • Tower: What needs to change fast, and what can I simplify today?
  • Devil: What am I compulsively feeding, and what do I actually need?
  • Ten of Swords: I’m at capacity. What does “stop” look like for the next 24 hours?
  • Five of Pentacles: Where am I assuming I have to do this alone?

The goal isn’t to make it “positive.”

The goal is to make it usable.

Close the loop (one tiny action)

Pick one:

  • drink water + eat something with protein
  • step outside for 90 seconds
  • write your micro-step on a sticky note
  • send one text: “Can you hype me up for doing the small thing?”

Then put the 3 cards somewhere you’ll see them one more time today. Not as pressure, just a reminder you showed up.

Call to action

If you try this spread, tell me what you pulled (or just drop: I Will + Because; share only what feels comfortable).

I love seeing what happens when self-trust becomes a tiny promise you can keep.
